Sprint Football Begins Inaugural 2018 Campaign with First Class Training, Practice and Game Facilities

Sparkill, New York- (3/15/18) - With the addition of St. Thomas Aquinas College's first-ever Sprint Football program beginning play in September of 2018, the STAC Athletics Department has named the Torne Valley Sports Complex the programs new home field. During the Spartans inaugural season, they will play 3 home contests at Torne Valley located in Hillburn, NY, one game in each of September, October and November. Listed below are the tentative CSFL home dates:

September 15th vs. Caldwell

October 20th vs. Cornell

November 3rd vs. Mansfield

The Torne Valley Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art sports facility with various amenities including a full turf field for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey with seating for 1,500 people, full concession stands, training room, restroom, locker-room, parking and a turf bubble for winter training. The Spartan coaching staff, led by Head Coach Matt Barry, is excited to call Torne Valley their home field, stating "Playing at Torne Valley, Rockland County's first turf field and the site of some outstanding athletic events is the perfect stadium to bring college football to Rockland County. On September 15th, St Thomas Aquinas College will begin a new era of college football at Torne Valley."

Along with Torne Valley, the Spartans are also seeing some changes around their own campus, with the addition of a full 60 by 40-yard practice turf adjacent to the current home field for the Spartans soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and softball programs. This addition to the Spartan Athletic facilities will also include football locker rooms and a weight training room. The excitement for the program and the commitment from the school has coach Barry and his staff excited, "The practice field being built for the football program illustrates the commitment Dr. Fitzpatrick and the St Thomas Aquinas College Administration have to build a successful football program for our student-athletes and community."

However, the Torne Valley Sports Complex and the new Spartan Field practice turf are only the tip of the iceberg for St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football, as the team also has the Kraus Fitness Center to weight and speed train throughout the year. The 4,165 square-foot facility, expanded in 2015, offers more than 45 pieces of equipment, including cardio machines such as spin bikes, treadmills, row and elliptical machines. The strength training equipment includes an 8 stack ten-station jungle gym, 4 power rack training stations, dumbbells 5 through 120 pounds and leg, arm curl, arm extension, chest press, shoulder press and lateral pulldown machines. Dr. Margaret Fitzpatrick, the College's President, had this to say about the renovated fitness center, "We are extremely grateful to the Krauses for their continued generosity to the St. Thomas Aquinas College, the Kraus Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art facility that is serving the entire STAC community." She added, "here at the College, we recognize the importance of strengthening the mind and the body. We're excited about the additional opportunities for team building and socialization through healthy activity."

The importance of Torne Valley, the new Spartan Field practice turf, locker rooms and weight training amenities are huge for the development of a new program to help in training and recruiting. STAC Athletics is committed to getting the program off of the ground the right way, and facilities is a great way to start says Head Coach Matt Barry, "Our program will be very fortunate to have our very own practice facility, where we will have our weight training, practice field and locker rooms all in the same location," Barry continued, " The student-athletes now will have the ability to train and practice at a facility dedicated to their success, and our coaching staff is very excited."

With the addition of new facilities, amenities and the state-of-the-art fitness center on campus, the inaugural CSFL season on the campus of St. Thomas Aquinas College is set up to be a successful one.
