The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with the visiting Bears from NYIT, with a 6-2 loss in game one and a 3-2 win in game two. Colleen Pagnani's RBI single in the 7th scored senior Devin Meikle who led off with a single setting up the win for the Lady Spartans. Samantha McDonald was 5-for-8 for the day.
In game one, STAC took a 1-0 lead off an RBI single from ToniAnn Grothin the first inning. NYIT put together strong 3rd and 4th innings to take a 6-1 lead. Katie Meyers hit an RBI single in the 5th to score STAC's other run of the game. Maura Power took the loss on the mound.
In the second game of the day STAC got out to another early lead off an RBI single from Kimberly Nowak. Both team left runners stranded over the next couple of innings until NYIT rallied for a 2-run 7th inning highlighted by a 2-run home run from Marquez. The Lady Spartans would not let up easily as Meikle led off with a single in her final at bat as a Lady Spartan. McDonald hit a double to put runners in scoring position setting up Pagnani's game winning single that scored Meikle and allowed McDonald to score on an error. Megan Sweezy got the win on the mound in her final game as a Lady Spartan.
The Lady Spartans finish their season off with a record of 8-30 and will lose three seniors to graduation; Devin Meikle, Maura Power and Megan Sweezy.
