Women's Lacrosse Ready for Home Opener Against Merrimack Sunday

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team is scheduled to open their season on Sunday at home against Merrimack College. The Spartans were tabbed 6th in the ECC Coaches Preseason Poll announced on January 23rd.

The Spartans return 19 players from last years squad that finished 5-11 and 3-5 in conference play.  The Spartans return senior, Caroline Finnen, who led STAC with 53 points, which included 41 goals and 12 assists.  Junior Jennifer Farrell was their second leader in points having tallied 23 goals and 13 assists.  The Spartans added six freshmen and one transfer to round out this years squad.  Starting goal keeper junior Laura Delorenzo earned four out of five of the Spartans wins last season while fellow junior Katherine Feigenbaum earned the other victory.  

Sunday's home opener is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.  The Spartans will host Wilmington University on Tuesday, February 27th at 3:00 p.m.  Conference play begins on March 3rd when the Spartans travel to NYIT who was ranked 3rd in the ECC Coaches Poll.  LIU Post earned five of nine first place votes to top the poll with 77 points. The Pioneers, who finished the 2017 campaign with a 16-3 record, won their third straight ECC Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championship in 2017. LIU Post also begins the season ranked No. 6 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Preseason Poll.
