The St. Thomas Aquinas track & field team opened their season this weekend at the Elm City Invitational, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Rickssen Opont broke the school record in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw. In the Shot Put Rickssen Opont hit a provisional mark for Division II National with a throw of 16.01m (52"6.5) which was the 41st best throw in Division II last year. In the Weight Throw he threw 14.84m (48'8) which is a new school record.
Saint Jacob Diodonet took 1st place in the 200 with a time of 22.27, as well as taking 2nd in the 400 in a time of 50.46 and 3rd in the 55 meters in 6.49. Freshman, Dante Brown had a good weekend breaking the school record in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.74m (22'1.5) and taking 4th in the 55 meters with a time of 6.53. Brown also finished 4th in the 200 with a time of 22.69. Freshman, Kesignh Deloatch preformed well in the Field Events where he broke the school record in the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.96m (45'9.75) and he finished 4th in the High Jump by leaping 1.85m(6'0.75).
Other notable performances include Stephane Fortune, who finished 6th in the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.44 and Frankie Schiavone who hit a new personal record and school record in the Pole Vault with a leap of 3.75m (12'3.5). The 4x400 team of Frankie Schiavone, Dylan Bestler,Malyk Michel, and Saint Jacob Diodonet took 1st place with a time of 3:27.87.
