Men's Track & Field Team Wins ECC Championship; Women Finish 4th

The East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships were held last night at the Ocean Breeze Facility, where the Spartan Men's Team won its first-ever Indoor Championship, while the Women finished in 4th place. The men have finished in second place the past few seasons.  

The Spartans had many great performances.  St. Jacob Diodonet took 1st place in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and anchored the 4x400 team of Frankie Schiavone, Mich Philistin, and Dylan Bestler to season best 3:22.07 in winning the event.  Rickssen Opont stole the show in the shot put by tieing the conference record  with athrow of 15.91m and taking 1st place in the event and 3rd place in the weight throw.  Also on the Sprint side, Freshman Dante Brown took 3rd in the 60 meters, 2nd in the 200 and 1st place in the long jump with a new conference record in that event. Ian Mirtile also ran very well by hitting a new a pr in the 800 with a time of 1:57.82 taking 2nd place and then taking 3rd place in the mile. Aidan Russell also ran the mile taking 5th place in that event while also running the 1000 where he took 2nd place.  Frankie Schiavone and James Dowd took 3rd and 5th in the 800 respectively and Schiavone took 4th place in the pole vault. Kesigh Deloatch broke the conference record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.72m which took 1st place, he then took 2nd place in the High Jump and 6th place in the long jump. Elias Guardado took 2nd place in the Long Jump and 4th place in the triple jump.  The DMR Team of Vinny Vasquez, Mich Philistin, Dylan Bestler and Joe Lipari took 2nd place overall at the Championships.  Dylan Bestler took 6th place in the 500 as well as his two relay finishes.  Other notables include Kyle Kondaki taking 6th in the 5k, Vinny Vasquez taking 6th in the 1000, and Tim Faranda taking 6th in the Shot Put.
 
The Lady Spartans had some great performances as well.  Aida Torpey took 1st place in the 5k in a time of 18:57.50 and the came back to take a 5th place finish in the 3k.  Christina Maretzo also had a great day for the Lady Spartans where she took a second place finish in the 1000 and she was the lead off leg for the DMR Team of Amber Lubaszka, Abbey Kimbrell, and Rebecca Macleod.  From that DMR Team Amber Lubaszka finished in 6th place in the 800 and 4x400, Abbey Kimbrell took 6th place in the mile and Rebecca Macleod took 3rd in the 1000.  Camille Cameron took 3rd place in the 60 meters and 4th place in the 200 meters at the Championships.  Katie Mollahan finshed her indoor career at STAC with a 3rd place finish in the championships.  Molly Conner hit a new personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 10.51m and also hitting a new personal best in the hurdles with a time of 9.81.
