The St. Thomas Aquinas Track & Field team competed at the Shark Invite hosted by Nova Southeastern where the men's team edged out Nova Southeastern by 2 points and the women's team Spartans took 2nd place.
In the men's meet victory, Winslow Dorsainvil and St. Jacob Diodonet took 1st and 2nd in the 100 meters where Dorsainvil won it in 10.82 and Diodonet ran 10.93. St. Jacob Diodonet then took 2nd in the 200 by running a 22.28 into a head win. In the 400 Lugduni Desrosiers, Ricardo Reid and Dylan Bestler all scored with Desrosier running 50.26, Reid 50.69 and Bestler in 51.19. In the 800 Ryan Gasser was the 1st Spartan to cross the line in 2:01.50 and Robbie Guidicipietro in 2:03.23. In the 1500 Robbie Guidicipietro and Vinny Vazquez were the first two to come past the line in the event with times of 4:14.23 and 4:15.15. Dylan Bestler hit a new personal best in the 400 Intermediate Hurdle by running 56.69. Christian Diaz and Campbell Zicchino were 2nd and 3rd in the 3000 Steeplechase.
The St. Thomas Aquinas 4x100 team of Desrosiers, Dorsainvil, Morris and Diodonet hit a new school record in the 4x100 with a time of 42.33. The 4x400 team of Diodonet, Reid, Bestler, and Desrosiers ran 3:21.47 which is a new outdoor record for the event. Mohammed Ifhthikar hit a new school record in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.74m (22'1.5) and Elias Guardado took 4th with a jump of 6.45 (21'2). Both then jumped the triple jump where Guardado jumped 13.10m (42'11.75) and Ifthikar 12.89 (42'3.5). Rickssen Opont won the shot put and the disc in throws of 13.40m (43'11.75)in the shot and 40.92m (134'3) in the discus.
On the women's side Camille Cameron set a new school record in the 400 meters by running a 57.38. Victoria Jones-Alleyne also hit a new school record in the 100 meter hurdles by running 14.88 in the event. Kristen Borriello won the 800 and 1500 at the Shark Invitational by running times of 2:24.15 (800) and 5:00.46 (1500). Rebecca MacLeod took 2nd in the 800 at 2:30.28 and 3rd in the 1500 with a time of 5:03.52. Aida Torpey took 3rd in the 800 in a time of 2:31.58 and 2nd in the 1500 in a time of 5:02.84.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College womens 4x100 team of Amber Lubaszka, Tiana Kirkland, Cameron, and Jones Alleyne hit a new school record in the event by running 48.38. The Lady Spartans 4x400 team of Borriello, Cameron, Lubaszka and Macleod took 2nd with a 4:13.15. Katherine Mollahan took 2nd place in the shot put with a throw of 11.14m (36'6.75).
The Spartans and Lady Spartans next compete Friday and Saturday at the Hurricane Invitational.
