STACTRACK INDOOR - SEASON ENDING PERFORMANCES - 2007/08
On March 7th the Spartan Striders traveled down to NYC to compete in the Front Runners Track Meet held at the 168th street armory. In the 60-meter dash, Keith Francis finished third and set a new school record of 7:32. Also entered in the 60 were Matt Abrahamson who ran a 7.65 and Ashley Tuscano, who run a 9.15. In the open 200 meter race Ashley ran a 29.47. Ashley then teamed up with Amanda Szorentini and Dan Nilsen to run a 1:50.29 in the 4 X 200. Ashley's team won their heat as Dan ran a 25.2 to catch the host team's leader, and then blow him away on the final stretch.
In the 800 meter race, Davide Pulsoni finished off his indoor season by running a 2:05.29. Dan Nilsen set a PB by running a 2:23. Lisa Urnaitis, not to be out done by the boys ran not only her own PB, but also a school record finishing the race in 2:39.34. Amanda Szorentini, who is still rounding into race shape, ran a 2:50.58.
In the Men's 4 x 200, the team of Cirolia, Francis, Valentine & Muniz were all business as they smoked the field, running a 1:30.87, which broke their previous school record. The "B" Squad of Modafferi, Abrahamson, Pulsoni & Opoku, after some trash talking with the "A" Squad ran their 4 X 200 in 1:35.44.
March Saturday March 8th a small squad consisting of a 4 X 400 relay team and a women's shot putter traveled up to Boston to compete in the ECAC Women's Championship & The IC4A Men's Championship.
Jeanette Gibson threw 3 quality throws in the women's shot put, competing against mostly D-I schools. Jeanette's final throw of 35'00.25 garnered her 18th place in the heavily competitive event at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.
Over at the Boston University Track & Field Pavilion the men's 4 X 400 relay team of Modafferi, Muniz, Opoku & Valentine were preparing themselves to run the race of their lives.
Competing in stiff D-I competition, where teams where consistently running fast times, the Spartan quartet ran an amazing 3:21.81. What was truly amazing to watch was Muniz's 48.50 second leg! To give one a perspective on that race, one must remember that last year's team ran a 3:32.
