Spartans Ranked 8th in East Region

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team is ranked 8th in the East Region, announced Tuesday afternoon by the NSCAA/Adidas National and Regional Ranking.  The Spartans were 2-0-2 when the ranking came out and just beat #7 ranked Chestnut Hill, 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Spartan offense is led by junior midfielder Daniel Davren who has 3 goals and 1 assists on the season.  Joseph Connolly scored two goals for the Spartans last week.  Sean Devito and Remington Lee have added the Spartans other two goals.

The Spartan defense has limited its opponents to two goals in five games, one of which came off a penalty kick.  Senior keeper Andrew Tartara has recorded 34 saves this season and has three shutouts on the year.  Ethan Evans and Kurt Schuler have all contributed to the strong defensive play.  William Miller and Edgar Barragan have given a lot of support to the forwards as well as contributing with their strong defense.  "We have been very strong defensively but have a long hard season ahead of us," commented head coach Graham Brown.

The Spartans are currently 3-0-2 with all of their games being on the road so far.  STAC will play its home opener on Saturday when they face Gannon University at 12:30 p.m.  The Spartans will face their first ECC opponent the following Saturday when they host Dowling College who are currently ranked 4th in the East.
