The St. Thomas Aquinas College Club Hockey team hit the ice on Friday evening against Fordham University to open a mini two-game homestand.
The Spartans fell to defeat 6-1, at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey, NY in first of two games this season with the high scoring, first place Rams.
Fordham opened the scoring when forward Nick Gadowski put the puck into the net just four into the game. Two more goals by Gadowski, giving him the hat trick, and another by George Pappous put the STAC in a 4-0 hole at the end of the first period.
St. Thomas Aquinas tried to start a rally when Shaun Benson tallied three and half minutes into the middle stanza, cutting the deficit to 4-1. However, a late Fordham goal by Mike Gamby restored the four goal lead by the Rams at the second intermission.
A third period power play goal by Zach Brenner sealed the game for Fordham at 6-1.
Spartan Goalie Carl Lorenz (L, 1-5) stopped 41 of 47 shots faced.
Shots on goal for the game were 16 for St. Thomas Aquinas and 47 for Fordham University.
St. Thomas Aquinas wraps up the home portion of their schedule for the Fall 2017 Semester on Sunday night, as the Spartans play host to the SUNY Maritime College Privateers at Sport-O-Rama. Puck drop is set for 8pm.
