The St. Thomas Aquinas College Club Ice Hockey Team wrapped up their brief two game road trip on Saturday night in Queens, falling to SUNY Martitime College, 3-2.
The Privateers opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest, as Joseph Bonsignore scored the lone goal of the period to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Both teams traded high quality chances in the middle frame, but neither club could solve each other's netminder and the score remained a one goal advantage for SUNY Maritime after two.
In the third period, Maritime was able to put two more goals on the board, as Joseph Bonsignore tallied his second of game, three and a half minutes into the final stanza and Bobby Oldmixon netted his first of the evening, almost halfway through the third, to give the Privateers a commanding 3-0 lead. However, the Spartans put on a furious rally, as freshman winger Patrick Burns was able to cut the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal with just under six minutes remaining. Burns was not done though, as he lit the lamp once again with a minute and a half to go, putting the Privateers back on their heels and the score at 3-2. Unfortunately, the attempts at a full comeback fell short, as Maritime closed out the game and picked up the two points in the standings.
Spartan Goalie Carl Lorenz (L, 1-4) stopped 20 of 23 shots faced for the Spartans.
Shots on goal for the game were 29 for St. Thomas Aquinas and 23 for SUNY Maritime College.
After a week off from action, St. Thomas Aquinas will play its final two home games of the 2017 Fall Semester. On Friday, November 3rd, the Spartans take on the Fordham University Rams in an 8:30pm match-up. Two days later, on November 5th, STAC will take on SUNY Maritime College at 8pm. Both games will take place at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks in Monsey, NY.
