Perretz and Zolotas earn all tournament team, lead Spartans to victory
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team traveled to Tall Grass Country Club for the first annual Adelphi University fall invitational this weekend and came from behind to get their first tournament win. The Spartans played well on Day 1 shooting an even 300 behind the stellar play of Patrick Schwarze (73) and Nick Zolotas (74). Freshman Robert Rivera contributed with a solid round of 76, making birdie on his last hole of the day and Jordan Perretz rounded out the scoring with a 77. Although the Spartans played well, they found themselves in 4th place after day 1, 6 shots off the lead.
With day 2 came stiff winds
and difficult pin locations. As the rest of the field struggled,
the Spartans prevailed firing a 299, good for low daily score by 7
strokes. Senior Jordan Perretz stepped up shooting a masterful
round of 72 with 2 birdies and 13 pars on the day. Freshman Nick
Zolotas continued his strong play with another 74 while Chris
Fitzpatrick threw in a stellar 73. The Spartans shot a 2-day total
of 599, passing Adelphi University, Post University, and UMASS
Lowell for their first win of the year. Nick Zolotas' 148 and
Jordan Perretz's 149 were good for fourth and fifth getting them
all tournament team honors.
