STAC Golf Finishes in 17th Place At St. John's McLaughlin Invitational
The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team took on some of the top Division I programs this past weekend at Bethpage State Park in the St. John's McLaughlin. The Spartans came out ready to play posting a season low 289 led by Junior Pat Schwarze (71), freshman Nick Zolotas (72), freshman Chris Fitzpatrick (72). Brian and Viola and Jordan Perretz rounded out the scoring with scores of 74 and 76 respectively; good for 7th place out of 18 teams. Round 2 of the 36-hole day proved more challenging for the linksters as they fought heat and fatigue. Senior Jordan Perretz led the charge shooting a 74, while Pat Schwarze continued to impress with a solid 75. Chris Fitzpatrick grinded out a 76, while Nick Zolotas and Brian Viola both posted rounds of 77.
In a final round plagued by rain and wind, the Spartans fought through the end with 307, good for a 3-day total of 818. Pat Schwarze played brilliantly shooting a 73 and giving him a 3-day total of 219. Jordan Perretz continued to impress with a final round 76 and a three day total score of 226. Freshman Nick Zolotas posted 78 for a total of 227, while Chris Fitzpatrick and Brian Viola shot 229 and 231 respectively
The Spartans continue the season tomorrow at the ECAC tournament at Drumlins Golf Club in Syracuse, NY.
The Spartans shot 3-day team total of 818 (289, 302, 307). Junior Patrick Schwarze led STAC with 3-day 219 (71, 75, 73).
