St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball Outfielder Juan Adorno and Pitcher Angelo Baez were named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively on Tuesday, following the Spartans 2-2 Virginia road doubleheader split versus Bloomsburg University (PA).
Adorno was strong at the plate for the Spartans. The graduate student outfielder from Brooklyn, NY, had a single, double, triple and homer among his four hits in 11 at-bats. His highlight was a 3-for-5 effort with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's nightcap.
Baez was near-perfect from the bullpen in leading the Spartans to a 3-2 victory over Bloomsburg. With STAC trailing, 2-0, the sophomore infielder/pitcher from the Bronx, NY, entered the game with one out in the second inning and went the rest of the way, not allowing a hit while walking two and striking out six over 5.2 scoreless innings helping St. Thomas Aquinas rally for the win.
#5 Ranked St. Thomas Aquinas (6-2) returns to action this coming weekend, as the team hits the road once again, this time heading to Cary, North Carolina for their Spring Break games. The Spartans will play Findlay, Franklin Pierce, Saint Rose, Dominican (NY), and Clafin at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, March 9th-11th, before heading to Catawba to wrap up their trip to the Tar Heel State on March 14th.
