At the Rockland Boulders last home game of the 2017 season, the 2017 St. Thomas Aquinas NCAA Championship team was recognized for their accomplishments. The Spartans, who finished 3rd in the country, were called to the field for a brief ceremony where they displayed the NCAA Regional Trophy.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team had a record-breaking year in 2017. After winning the East Regional Tournament, the Spartans headed to Grand Prairie, TX for the NCAA DII World Series. The Spartans won two games in Texas and finished in third place in the tournament, ending their historic season with a 44-17 record.
Athletes Giovanni Dingcong, Frankie Moscatiello and Joey Pena were honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association with All-American Status.
D2CCA and ABCA/Rawlings named Spartan Pitcher, Frankie Moscatiello a Third Team All-American selection, while the NCBWA has named him an All-American Honorable Mention selection. Moscatiello, the junior starting pitcher from Rocky Point, NY, currently holds a 9-1 record in 16 appearances for STAC, with a 1.77 ERA in 86.1 innings pitched. Frankie has only walked 35 opposing batters, while striking out another 91.
